Frequently Asked Questions
• What are the trip costs? The registration fee is R$ 1,799.00 (one thousand seven hundred ninety-nine reais) and can be paid in installments by credit card. This amount includes lodging, meals, and transportation from the base to the service areas. However, travel from your city to the Asas de Socorro base in Manaus, AM (airfare, bus fare, fuel for your car, etc.) is not included in the registration fee and must be covered separately. • If Asas de Socorro accepts donations, why is there a registration fee? The actual cost per volunteer ranges from R$ 3,000.00 to R$ 5,000.00. Donations help reduce that amount and also cover essential expenses such as boat maintenance and fuel; equipment and supplies used during outreach; and logistical support for the trips. • Is there a minimum or maximum age to participate? Participants must be 18 or older (no parental accompaniment is required for adults). There is no upper age limit, as long as the individual is physically and mentally capable of caring for themselves and others. • Is there a minimum education requirement? Basic literacy is sufficient. No higher education level is strictly required. • How do the trips work? Trips are conducted aboard a large boat that serves both as transportation and, at night, as sleeping quarters for volunteers. During the day, it functions as the clinic for medical and dental care for community members. To reach the communities, the boat travels more than 20 hours upriver to remote locations. Once there, it’s hands-on work: volunteers go door-to-door providing healthcare, sharing the Gospel, and inviting people to join the program activities (health consultations, worship services, children’s games, etc.). Each trip is organized in partnership with a local missionary or church to ensure continuity of the work and to give people ongoing opportunities to grow in their faith.
